Map

Etang la Saussaie is an 8 acre lake with carp to a huge 74lbs. Surrounded by 15 acres of rural woodland, located in the Champagne Region of France the lake is just over 3 hours drive from Calais.

This lake has a history of producing big carp having previously been home to the world record common at just over 100lbs which passed away in 2013.

This is a big fish water with the majority of the carp over 40lbs and the current lake record 74lbs. A maximum of 6 anglers can fish the lake at any one time giving good water coverage per angler.

There are 14 swims all which can be accessed by vehicle. The swims have been are well spaced around the lake and given a maximum of 6 anglers can fish the lake at any one time there is plenty of opportunity for moving swims of the course of your trip. The lake has four sides, 2 banks are fairly long giving is an almost rectangular shape with is gradually getting wider towards one end. There are many great features to fish to including deep margins and a small island in the middle of the lake which acts as a good half way marker.

Depths range from 8 to 12 feet depending on the time of year. Bait boats are permitted however, the boundaries of each swim are all within fairly easy casting distance.

There are no crayfish, poison chat or bream.

The lake is fully secure being fenced all of the way around including a gate for vehicle access. The surroundings are fields and woodlands for as far as the eye can see. Although Etang la Saussaie is a close drive from local shops, you can easily be fooled to believing that there is not another person for miles around.

A selection of bait if available to be purchased at the lake
